I'm really pleased to have signed up to the National Autistic Society ‘I’m One’ pledge, to show my support for people with Autism.
Last week, I was fortunate to attend the East Renfrewshire ASN Parents Action Group, speak to parents, including those with autistic children, and to hear from them the importance of practical support and increased public knowledge.
In addition to my work locally, as a member of the All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Autism, and Co-Chair of the APPG for Disabled Young People, I've focussed on these issues during my time as MP for the area, making sure the issues affecting local people are properly represented at Westminster.
Regular dialogue with groups like this has been a key part of my work over the past two years.
All politicians should work to ensure they have a clear understanding of life with autism, to equip them to provide proper support and promote increased understanding.
